Nicolas Hulot not Nicolaï Tuloh !

Have you ever heard of Nicolas Hulot ?? No it’s not a typo mistake, I am talking about someone whose name is « Nicolas Hulot » ! This guy announced on Monday 22nd january that he would not run for the French presidency, lifting the prospect of a candidacy that could have stripped votes from the main contenders ! The French presidency !

This story is incredible, because I didn’t know until few weeks ago, that I had a namesake in France. Nicolas Hulot, a 51 years old wellknown French TV star, became a household name in the late 80s and early 90s for presenting a popular TV show which showcased some of the world’s most remote and stunning landscapes. My daughter who lives in Montpellier (south part of France, a very very nice place) for few months now told me about this guy.

Nicolas Hulot threatened last November to run for president in the 2007 election if leading candidates did not sign up to an ecological pact and the Globalwarming Awareness in 2007, to make the environment a top priority. In the event, most of them did, albeit with reservations, convincing Hulot not to throw his hat into the ring.

I read on newspaper, than he decided to trust the candidates words and their commitment. Hope he will have more chance than us in United States with the Bush’s family. Opinion polls predicted he would have taken around about 10 percent of votes.

This guy, is much more famous than I am, and I’m still disgruntled I never heard about him ! Hulot came third in a recent survey listing France’s most popular personalities. Althought he decided to not run French pesidency, he will remain active ahead of the April and May french election, putting pressure on the frontrunners to keep the environment at the heart of the debate. This guy does the exact same job that I do!

Nicolas Hulot invites candidates and citizens to demonstrate their desire to take action by signing the ecological pact.
